MAY 29 2022: REVOLUTIONARY HASTINGS MARCHES IN THE HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON MEMORIAL DAY PARADE!
The members, family and friends of Revolutionary Hastings were privileged to march in the Hastings-on-Hudson Memorial parade, right behind the Hastings Historical Society. Following them was a 19th century carriage (courtesy of Bill Logan) drawn by BooBoo the horse (courtesy of the Bronx Equestrian Center). We were joined by Hamilton’s Hearts of Oak Militia and Nurse Eliza. It was truly a special day!
September 30th 2021: Dedication of Revolutionary Walk
It was a wonderful day of celebration on the 243rd anniversary of the Battle of Edgars Lane. The crowd of 100+ was welcomed by the Hearts of Oak fife and drum Honor Guard and representatives from the VFW and American Legion Westchester for an Invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. Guests of Honor included County Executive George Latimer, Westchester Legislator and County Majority Leader Mary Jane Shimsky, Hastings Mayor Nicola Armacost, Constance Kehoe of Revolutionary Westchester 250, and Natalie Barry, President of the Hastings Historical Society.
October 1 2021: lantern tours!
As part of the regularly scheduled Friday Night Live, we worked with Barb Prisament to arrange for the placement of our Peter Post Tavern — beautifully designed and constructed by Hastings’ own Steve Pucillo — on Warburton Avenue. The public was invited to join our docent volunteers for a visit to Revolutionary Walk and a chance to learn about our local history through the panels installed there. The docents led the way while carrying candle lanterns, and the site was bordered by 100 candles in paper bags. It made for a fun, engaging and informative evening!
October 2 2021: FAMILY FUN DAY!
This day was a full-fledged “History in our Backyard” festival featuring over 15 period craftspeople and demonstrators, living history enactors and performers. A grant from the Scarsdale Historical Society funded the event and its president, Seth Kaller, exhibited some of the spectacular Revolutionary period documents from his collection, including a love letter from Alexander Hamilton to Eliza Schuyler. The event was successful beyond our expectations, thanks to the efforts of organizer Eileen Charles and the participation of so many Hastings’ families. Over 500 people attended, many of them children, who were enthralled by all of the historical activities. A Family Fun Day for this coming fall is being considered, so keep your eyes out for announcements!
